Josh Norman Talked For 21 Minutes About Trump, Protests, And America After The Game Last Night

It’s a very interesting world we are currently living in. A world where the current president of the United States, once revered as the most important job in the world, is calling out employees of the NFL, a private company, and suggesting they be fired if they do not do as he pleases. It’s such a bizarre idea that the president publicly make a statement like that, calling for jobs of Americans who are executing their constitutional rights of peaceful protest before playing in a fucking football game. When you break it down to it’s core, it’s sort of just silly. They aren’t protesting the flag, or the troops, or America, but if you can spin it in that way, you can then divide it into an “Us vs Them” debate, which is basically how Trump got elected in the first place. Pandering to the blue collar, ‘Merica crowd.

But I digress. That’s why Josh Norman spoke up.

WaPo - Norman waved off a Redskins official at one point, saying he wanted to keep talking, and he went on for more than 20 minutes, beating his chest at one point and saying that he was getting choked up. He spoke about the military connections on both sides of his family, and about his respect for the flag and the country, and said he once dreamed of being in the Air Force. But he said that he was roused to action by Trump’s words about his NFL colleagues. In fact, his remarks were almost entirely focused on the President, who at the rally Friday night had asked, “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now, out. He’s fired. He’s fired!’ ” The crowd had responded with cheers.

“It’s not about the flag. It’s not,” Norman said of his response. “It’s not about anything like that. It’s not about black and white. It’s about what we are being faced with right now, and that’s being teared down, from in the White House, behind the podium, behind the presidency of the United States of America. That can’t go down. … That’s just disrespectful. That’s appalling, man. If he calls someone an SOB? How you call someone that? That’s their right to do, you know what I mean?”

The president of the free world, the guy who has always bashed Obama for golfing, or for talking about sports, or for filling out a bracket…he’s now talking about NFL players. It’s hypocritical at best. You can make your own opinion on whether players should stand or what, but the fact the president is speaking about it is insane.

What sucks is now an Anthem protest is now becoming an anti-Trump protest, which is sort of what Trump loves. He wants to be able to spin football players who take a knee during the anthem as anti-American, while if you love the country, you’re a pro-Trump guy. He legit runs his White House like he’s a cast member on “Survivor” trying to manipulate and spin narratives.

“C’mon, man,” Norman said. “[There are] bigger problems in this world than worrying about what we do as we take our knee, and what is our Constitutional right. Like, that is sad man. It’s a sad day in America when that happens. All this stuff that’s going on, and you’re worried about a sport? You’re worried about us? C’mon man. That’s an atrocity. Therefore if you come at us in that way, we can get political very fast. So you have 1,800 men on your back now. Good luck with that.”

Again, no matter what side of the aisle you stand on, no matter what football team you like, or what race you are, this entire thing is so completely crazy, especially when you consider tweets like this

and this

and this

exist.

So I propose a compromise: let’s allow the NFL players, owners, and fans decide what’s best for the NFL and allow the government to try and not get us killed by North Korea. Everyone wins and we can all enjoy football and our lives again.
