So Things Are Getting Pretty Ugly Between Joffrey Lupul And The Toronto Maple Leafs

Joffrey Lupul missed all of last year after failing a physical before training camp and getting stashed on the IR for the entire season. This all starts a few months before last year’s training camp when Lupul got injured in February 2016 that required season ending surgery. He only had 14 points in 46 games before the injury–which for a team who was tanking for Auston Matthews in the draft was pretty great, but in terms of a guy who is getting older in an organization that is looking to move forward is not ideal. So yeah. That’s just some background for ya. Lupul had a terrible 2015-16 season before getting injured and hasn’t played in a game since. Heading into training camp this year, Lupul thought his injury was fully healed and he’d be ready to play out the final year in his contract. Not so fast, my friend.

Now with most teams, you’d see that a player failed a physical and you wouldn’t really think anything of it. You’d take their word for it and carry on with the rest of your day. But for a team like the Toronto Maple Leafs who have already have a history with sketchy injury situations before like Stephane Robidas, you gotta stay on your toes because these assholes are shifty. And according to Joffrey Lupul, the Leafs are back on their bullshit.

The comments have been deleted at this point but luckily this is the internet and nothing is ever actually deleted. Joffrey Lupul right there calling out the Toronto Maple Leafs on some primetime fuckery. Now if you’re sitting down right now wondering what would be the point of purposely failing Lupul’s physical, you just have to take a look at their current salary cap situation. With Lupul healthy and playing, they’re right up against the cap. If Lupul fails his physical then they can throw him on LTIR for the 2nd year in a row and now they have some wiggle room to work with if they need to go out and grab anybody at the trade deadline. So if you’re Lou Lamoriello or Mike Babcock (who, if you’re ever listened to Mike Commodore on Spittin Chiclets, you know has a knack for being a real jackass), you’d probably rather try to pick somebody up at the deadline for a playoff run instead of going with a guy who scored 14 points 2 years ago. It makes sense, sure, but it’s still a real cock sucker move nonetheless. Not that there’s anything wrong with sucking cock. Some of my best friends are cock suckers. But you get what I’m saying.

So now what? The Maple Leafs have already declined to comment on the Instagram post but I’m sure they’ll have to say something eventually.

You’d think the NHLPA would already have something in place here for Lupul to file a grievance against the team instead of having to sub-tweet/sub-insta them on his own. Is Lupul telling the truth? Are the Maple Leafs telling the truth? If Lupul is healthy but the Maple Leafs are still stashing him on LTIR for cap relief and they get caught on it, what will be the penalty? If they lose any sort of cap space for next year or two, then they’re fucked considering the amount of money they’re going to have to pay Matthews and Marner and Nylander. The whole situation is fucky. But since this is the Maple Leafs we’re talking about, my guess is nothing happens. Which will then cause Joffrey Lupul to take justice into his own hands and sleep with Lamoriello and Babcock’s wives.
