Philadelphia has finally found their Wild Thing. I mean look at this man. He has personified intimidation. The BCG’s and even that last name, Hammer. He look’s like he’s straight out of the California Penal League. If I were a Phillies player and I were married, you better believe I am not letting my wife leave the house if this guy is around. You think I want to get cucked like Roger Dorn? Just when my interest level in the Phillies was at an all-time low and I thought Matty Klentak and the front office couldn’t get any dumber, they go and pull a move like this….and totally redeem themselves!

Aside from the Hammer, The Phillies got a decent haul adding 2 other mid-level prospects.

Gomez was the #21 prospect in the Rockies organization before the trade. For Single A Asheville this season, he has put up some decent numbers. But, he’s little guy. At just 5’11 175, he’s just another middle infielder. I don’t see him transitioning to 3rd, even though he played there at the beginning of his career. Shortstop is a position where an organization needs depth, so he’s a nice name to add to this list.

Like Gomez, Alejandro Requena is just 20 years old as well. At 6′ 2 200lbs, he has the perfect frame for a pitcher. He has also put up great numbers in Asheville this season. The South Atlantic League is very pitcher friendly, so we’ll see how he adjusts when he get’s to Reading.

So like I Said, it’s a decent haul for a middle relief rental who is owed close to $3m this season. Pat Neshek will be a great addition for the Rockies, a team who is playing in the toughest division in baseball right now. Outside of Greg Holland and Chris Rusin, their bullpen has been deplorable. Since June 1st, the pen has racked up a 5.12 ERA which is 4th highest in all of baseball. Neshek’s deception and brilliance when he pitches at home should be the boost the Rockies need in the back end of their bullpen.

Pat, it was nice knowing you. Thanks for representing us in the All-Star game. Also, thanks for all those scoreless 6th inning appearances when we were down 7-2.

One last thing I need to mention. Aaron Nola is finally back!

It’s deadline season, so hopefully you’ll be seeing more from me in the coming days. Phillies have a lot of pieces that can be moved. Unfortunately, they either suck like Jeremy Hellickson, or are made of glass like Howie Kendrick. Whether they plan to buy or sell, this team is on a long road to nowhere for the foreseeable future. Thank God for Wild Thing, JD Hammer.
