RIP Microsoft Paint. Gone But Never Forgotten

The Guardian – Microsoft’s next Windows 10 update, called the Autumn (or Fall in the US) Creators Update, will bring a variety of new features. But one long-standing stalwart of the Windows experience has been put on the chopping block: Microsoft Paint.

First released with the very first version of Windows 1.0 in 1985, Paint in its various guises would be one of the first graphics editors used by many and became a core part of Windows … Now Microsoft has announced that, alongside Outlook Express, Reader app and Reading list, Microsoft Paint has been signalled for death having been added to the “features that are removed or deprecated in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update” list.

There is going to come a time when humans look back and deem 1985-2017 as the Golden Era of Art. Impressionism? Ain’t got shit. Realism? Get fucking lost. Renaissance? I’m sorry but the Sistine Chapel can’t even hold a candle to anything like this.

For 32 years, MS Paint revolutionized the way we look at art and design. It offered itself as a vessel which allowed anyone to become their own Michelangelo. For 32 years, the ability to become the best artist in the world was right there at your finger tips. Just one little mouse-click away. Think of all the masterpieces we’ve seen courtesy of MS Paint. Microsoft Paint was there for it all. But like all great things in life, the time has come to an end for MS Paint. 32 of the best years anybody could ever ask for. I wish it didn’t have to be this way but don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened. We are thankful for everything this wonderful app has brought into our lives and we will never forget MS Paint. Now crack one open and pour one out.
