Highlights From SEC Media Day 2

An exciting day two is in the books. Day 2 showcased Georgia and Florida, the two top teams in the SEC East, the Mississippi State Bulldogs still hungover from Dak Prescott, and Jay Cutler’s Alma Mater coached by Derek Mason, whose way with words made me believe they were going to win the East and a National Title. Lets dive on in.

Georgia:
Ahhh the Alabama difference. After Coach Kirby Smart’s first season away from the Tide and with the Dawgs, the team went 8-5 behind true freshman quarterback Jacob Eason’s mediocre year and a underwhelming season for Nick Chubb. Chubb deciding to return for his senior year and the backfield of him and Sony Michel were the talk of UGA Media Day.
Smart had high praise for the pairing, saying the two, “embodies what the SEC is about.” Coach Smart also touched on Eason, confirming he will be their starting QB. That being said, Smart would like to see Eason raise is completion rate this season after a less than stellar 55% last year.
If he is chucking dimes like this, then they will be alright.

Ps: Chubb and I agree on something:

Vanderbilt:
Hold the phone. Freshest outfit any coach has ever rocked during Media Days?!?!?! Vanderbilt is a low-key team…hang on with me for a minute. Yes they were 6-7 last season, but they beat Tennessee, Ole Miss, and Georgia. They lost by seven or less to South Carolina, Florida, Kentucky, and Auburn.
Coach Derek Mason brought up solid points today. The Commodores are returning 18 starters including senior Ralph Webb who has rushed for 3,342 yards in his career (most in school history), and they have a QB in Kyle Shurmur who bumps Migos while watching tape. Legendary. Mason was dropping quotes like this:
And bold quotes like this:
Lol.
Mississippi State:

*Insert yearly Dan Mullen wearing insane shoes comment here. This is thing about MSU, they suck. I mean 6-7 in their first season without Dak. I understand when you have a QB of that caliber for such a long time it will take time to rebuild the program. Enter Nick Fitzgerald, the new guy. He was Dak’s backup who did a solid job stepping into that starting role. Mullen compared the two and said, “Nick is the better athlete, but Dak is more accurate.”
Mullen really just talked about Fitzgerald and Dak saying how he wanted Fitzgerald to continue to grow as a QB blah blah blah. Its the same stuff every year. Mullen has been to plenty of bowl games and is climbing up the victory latter in MSU history, but he’s gotta start winning the conference, big time bowl games, AND championships. This shouldn’t be hard because he has nothing but time…
Florida:

BREAKING NEWS!!!!
UF is in a four player QB battle including Malik Zaire from Notre Dame and Luke Del Rio, the former Alabama walk-on. It will be interesting to see how that shakes out. Got some good news for the Gators though, the past two seasons they have been to the SEC championship and won the East!!! Bad news, they ran into Alabama. Coach Jim McElwain understands that. “I do understand they’re right now at the top. Up to the rest of us to go get ‘em.”
Hopefully Jim can best the Tide like he did that shark! (It wasn’t actually him, but cmon it looks just like him…)
Tomorrow we got Alabama (!!!), Missouri, Kentucky, and Texas A&M from 10-4 on SEC Network.
