People In New York City Apparently Better Keep Their Heads On A Swivel For Unmanned Buses Driving Backwards

I’ve long said that living in New York City is like living life on All-Madden. It’s dirty, expensive, overcrowded as fuck, filled with weirdos, and has a train system that can be crippled for days because a stick falls on the tracks. But having to watch out for unmanned vehicles from driving is flat out unfair. It’s like playing with the Browns on All-Madden and having to use Brock Osweiler. Yellow taxis already own the “Take your life in your own hands if you are riding in or walking near them” corner. Adding giant buses to that list would just be piling on at this point.

And while it’s obviously good news that nobody was on the bus, I think all of New York wouldn’t have been too upset if a certain someone was riding on that Q58 last night.

Also based on the account from the scene, the driver responsible for the bus could probably have used a few more days in the academy or wherever they they train bus drivers.

An MTA bus driver marking her third day on the job failed to put her 20-ton bus into park, causing it to bolt backward down a hilly Brooklyn street early Wednesday, police said. The bus smashed several parked cars during the wild ride in Bushwick about 12:45 a.m., according to stunned witnesses who captured the action on their cellphone cameras.

The MTA driver, a woman, mistakenly left the hulking transport in neutral and stepped off the bus, leaving it to roll out-of-control down Palmetto Ave., cops said. “I can’t believe this. This is my third day on the job,” the bus driver was overheard saying at the scene.

“We are grateful no one was seriously hurt,” said JP Patafio, a vice president with Transport Workers Union Local 100. “This is a very young bus operator in her early 20s who was on the job only three days. She is obviously very, very upset and we’re going to assist her.”

Left the bus in neutral? Are you fucking kidding me? That’s something a Barstool intern would do their first day at the office. Wild.
