Eminem Says "The Eminem Show" Was Based On "The Truman Show" And Jim Carrey "Basically Wrote" The Album

Genius - Eminem’s 2002 album The Eminem Show recently turned 15, and the Detroit rapper shared some insight into the project’s inspiration. In a handwritten note he posted on Instagram—that also included credits for the album—he explained that the 1998 film The Truman Show was the driving force behind the album’s creation.

“My life felt like it was becoming a circus around that time and I felt like I was always being watched,” he wrote. This falls in line with the film’s plot; Jim Carrey plays a man unwittingly living inside a TV show, where his life is broadcast to viewers around the world.
