James Corden Beautifully Summed Up My Feelings Of How Amazing Manchester Is

“Many won’t have ever been to Manchester, but you will definitely have heard of it. It’s famous all over the world for so many wonderful things,” he said before going on to list some of those attributes, from the football teams to being the birthplace of the leader of the suffragettes.

“But when I think of Manchester, the place that I know, I think of the spirit of the people there, and I’m telling you: a more tight-knit group of people you will be hard-pressed to find,” he went on. “Strong, proud, caring people with community at its core, and if it was even possible, the spirit of the people of Manchester will grow even stronger this evening.”

Perfectly said by James Corden. Like everyone, I was saddened last night hearing the news of the horrific bombing in Manchester. The massive loss of life, targeting children, it’s awful. And I was saddened because of how much I grew to love Manchester during the time I lived there. After quitting my job in 2013 and having no idea what to do with my life, I moved to Manchester for 4 months and it was the best decision I ever made. I lived with a friend, also a former professional poker player, and was overwhelmed by how much he and his friends were connected to the Manchester community. For such a big city, it’s such a tight-knit community. Some of the friendliest people on Earth. My time there was supposed to be all about making as much money as possible playing online poker (since it was banned in the USA), but it ended up being a time of my life where I realized I cared less about poker, and more about figuring out who I wanted to be as a person. It’s also where I wrote my first blog.

Manchester is an amazing city, and I’m so lucky to have lived there. The fact these faceless assholes tried to take the happiness and innocence of the city, specifically it’s children, disgusts me to my core. I will never understand how people have so much hate and are able to commit such heinous acts. I encourage everyone to not be scared, but to instead visit Manchester- go see Old Trafford, go to Footage, walk along the canals, and see why, like James Corden said, Manchester is so great and will grow even stronger.
