What A Fun Weekend Of Phillies Baseball, Here Are Some Of My Favorite Lowlights

wknd

What a fun Mother’s Day weekend it was for Phillies baseball. We didn’t see one of our starting pitchers reach the 6th inning. Our bullpen only lost TWO of the three games due to late inning home runs. The offense grounded into a measly 7 double plays. Bryce Harper continued to shit the bed vs. the Phillies going 6-12 with 2 HR and 5 RBI, increasing his season totals versus the Phillies this year to .351, 5 and 12.

After losing 2 of 3, the Phillies record is a respectable 14-21. They are 3 and 9 in May and losers of 10 of their 17 1-run games. But hey, on a positive note, Baseball Reference says they should be 17-18. I’ve compiled some of my favorite lowlights from the weekend. This is by the far the most depressing thing I have done in all my years as a Phillies fan. Even worse than buying an Omar Daal jersey and then wearing that jersey on opening day of the 2001 season.

You’ll need some solid music for this blog. Supremacy by Muse should do the trick. To me this song perfectly represents how the Phillies walked into DC this weekend, just so hungry to take the away the Nationals reign of the NL East.

Here we have Odubel Herrea trotting his tits off to beat out this double play in the 1st inning on Saturday. Never let up for a second.

Just your standard blowing a 4 run lead with 2 outs in the inning here. Obviously, our starting pitcher get’s pulled without getting through the 5th.

There is no one else that I want with the ball in his hand than Edubray Ramos, in a tie game to face Bryce Haper. The classic Michael Scott, Win-Win-Win type situation here.

Here we have our $16.7m per year starting pitcher failing to see the 6th inning for the 5th time in his 8 starts this season.

Nats fan’s brought their A game at least. On Mother’s day no less!

Here is the All-Star lineup manager Pete Mackanin drew up to face Max Scherzer in a baseball game. Why was Andres Blanco not hitting cleanup again?

Here is the 3rd, 30+ pitch inning Vince Velasquez has pitched already this season.

Just some solid, gold-glove defense here all-around the diamond.

After losing the lead earlier in the inning, here is Vinny giving up back-to-back 2-strike hits that gave the Nats the lead

Here we have the People’s Hardo, Max Scherzer, getting drilled in the knee by 100 mph line drive and then throwing an immaculate inning 15 minutes later.

Here we have the Phillies benefitting from two non-reviewable calls in a row. This Replay thing baseball has going on is a true innovation of modern sport.

Here we have our 0.00 ERA bullpen arm increasing his ERA to 1.32 in one pitch.

Finally, just a classy move from Fat Matt Albers here. He really represents how progressive a town of Washington DC truly is. No slurs at all coming from that mouth.

A great weekend it was. Compelling and rich. Pumped to head to Texas to face a cold Rangers team who have won 6 in a row, while hitting .295 with 37 runs on 56 hits during that stretch. Our starting pitching should be up for the challenge. I know the bullpen is ready.
