Good News: The Windrift In Avalon/Stone Harbor Does NOT Serve Flesh Eating Bacteria That Leads To Amputations

AVALON – A popular Jersey Shore restaurant can’t be held responsible for serving a woman raw shellfish that caused her to develop a flesh-eating bacteria that led doctors to amputate her leg, a judge has ruled. An expert called by Horan’s lawyers said that unsanitary conditions in the restaurant led to the infection but U.S. District Judge Renee Bumb said the testimony was speculation. Horan’s attorneys had argued that several days after Horan got sick, a Cape May County Board of Health food inspector found several violations. Bumb, in the summary judgement in favor of the restaurant on April 7, ruled that there was no evidence that handling of the raw clams by The Windrift led to the infection and the bacteria could have been present when the clams were delivered to the business. Maureen Horan, of Pennsylvania, sued The Windrift Hotel and Resort, a beachfront vacation spot in Avalon, following an ordeal that began with a meal there on July 30, 2010, according to court records. News of the judgment dismissing the lawsuit was first reported Monday by NJLawJournal.com. Two days after Horan ate three raw clams from the menu’s “Jersey Shore Sampler,” Horan was hospitalized with what doctors said was a Vibrio vulnificus sepsis infection and fasciitis, according to court documents. Doctors later amputated her leg to stop the further spread of bacteria, court records said.

Hold the phones…there was accusations of deadly flesh eating bacteria…on the Avalon/Stone Harbor boarder??? Good. God. Usually the only way you can get contaminated by deadly pathogens down the shore is if you get pricked by a needle on the boardwalk at Morey’s Piers or take a digger onto the carpet at the Dead Dog, which is essentially a death sentence (Think of a bathroom rug that hasn’t been washed for decades and has been dipped in every STD known to man, and some that are not. It’s almost to the point where you’d rather risk walking on lava.). But Avalon? I’m shocked.

Now, this is obviously a sad tale for the poor lady who ended up losing her leg. But am I saying, for sure, the Windrift doesn’t serve flesh eating bacteria in their raw clams? Not necessarily. I don’t think the courts are, either. But that kind of conjecture doesn’t fly in the land that’s Cooler By The Mile. This area is among the most high class getaways down the shore. You need 100% proof that bacteria came from those (ocean) clams before sending a frenzy through the entire 7-Mile Island. It’s all psychological. You yell Barracuda, everyone goes – “Huh? What?” You yell deadly flesh eating virus, and we’ve got a panic on our hands on Memorial Day Weekend. A creature straight out of Alien/Spaceballs would’ve had to pop out of her stomach at the Windrift bar for it to be proven that food was contaminated.

PS – Windrift Wing Night – FANTASTIC. Windrift Any Other Night – OVERPRICED/OVERRATED/OVER IT. Wayyyyyyyy too crowded and expensive for the sole right to drink while looking over the beach. Sure, it’s swell for a nice drink or two during happy hour if you can box out a spot or bag a few cougars. But other than that there’s plenty of options between Fred’s, WB, Golden Inn, Princeton, etc. Don’t get GOT.
