Red Sox Place Drew Pomeranz On The 10-Day DL With A Left Forearm Flexor Strain, But It Sounds Like This Is Just Roster Fuckery

Division Series - Boston Red Sox v Cleveland Indians - Game One

At first, I honestly didn’t know where start with this one. IF this is an actual injury that’s going to keep Drew Pomeranz out for longer than the 10-day minimum, then do we go with the “Are the Red Sox the most injured team that hasn’t even played a game yet?” angle, or do we go with the, “Why in God’s name did the Red Sox not rescind the Drew Pomeranz trade when they had the chance?” angle? Let’s just go with both for right now, and we’ll bitch about it accordingly.

Okay, so Opening Day is four days away, and the Red Sox have already lost one of their aces in David Price until at least mid-May (more than likely going to be longer than that), their 8th inning setup man in Tyler Thornburg for a month, and now Drew Pomeranz is on the 10-day disabled list with a left forearm flexor strain. By the way, I thought it was the tricep a week ago for Pomeranz? Now it’s something else? Anyway, this appears to be some sort of sneaky roster move and not an actual injury.

If you look at the Red Sox schedule, they open on April 3, have an off day on the 4th, then they play the 5th through the 12th. With the off day, Pomeranz likely would’ve made his first start of the season on the 9th in Detroit. If he comes off the disabled list when he’s eligible, he can still make his start on the 9th as originally intended, and then that allows the Red Sox to carry an extra reliever or bench player for the first five games of the season.

For now, we can chalk this up to a sneaky roster move, but I’m not exactly sold on Pomeranz’s health. So help me God if Pomeranz spends more than one fucking millisecond on the disabled list past that 10-day window, my brain might actually explode with such force that Anderson Espinoza will hear it all the way in San Diego.
