Dangle Days Weekend Recap: The Best Cellys From The Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament

Gonna be doing something a little different for Dangle Days this week. Because while everybody knows the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament for the hair, don’t let the flow completely over shadow the A1 quality celly game these kids break out on the biggest stage of the year. These kids pack the Xcel Energy Center. Pretty much dunk on every NHL games’ attendance during the 4 days the tournament takes place.  We’ve got Hairmantown breaking out the snow angels after winning the A division championship in double overtime. We’ve got Grand Rapids paying their respects to the big man above by breaking out the Tebow on their way to the AA championship.

So to commemorate another great year of high school hockey, here are some more of the best cellys that The Tourney 17 had to offer. (All GIFs via @shaynepasquino on Twitter. Throw him a follow).

Hermantown won the championship in double OT but lets take a quick look at how they got to the final game to begin with. The number 1 seed needed overtime to get past the 8 seed Luverne in the tournament opener. Then they had another tilt go to overtime against St. Cloud Cathedral. And that’s where Ryan Sandelin ended it in OT and broke out the Heartbreaker celly right in everyone’s face.

The heartbreaker is an underutilized celly and it’s probably better that way. It’s a power move that shouldn’t be overdone. It should only be reserved for the rarest of occasions, like scoring an OT game winner to send your team to the state championship game. You start breaking this celly out in a 7-2 game in November and it starts to lose some of it’s allure. Credit to Sandelin for knowing the time and place here.

Now I’d say at least 75% of the goals scored in this tournament were capped off with a Bow & Arrow celly. Clearly this was the favorite amongst the boys and for good reason. It’s a timeless classic that will never go out of style. With that being said, there was a need for guys to separate themselves from the pack if they wanted to make the All Celly Team. How could they separate themselves, you ask? Simple. Option A would be to break it right in front of the other teams’ bench.

So much disrespect.

Option B would be to add a little glass hop into the mix. It’s a minor change up but makes the celly all the more memorable.

Option C would be to be a blogger filming some #content…

More on this later in the week. But yeah. I don’t have the exact numbers on the tournament but like I said, I’m willing to bet nearly 75% of all goals scored during this tournament got the B&A treatment.

Other leaders in the club house are the delayed and exaggerated ice swipe.

This is a celly you break out when you know there’s a new profile picture in the making. He pauses and delays the ice swipe to make sure all the cameras are on him first. Then he pulls it way back and finishes off the celly with authority. You know this picture is up on his Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Myspace and refrigerator right now.

The Dab will never die.

The student sections were getting into it too. Just a bunch of young savages out there going bananas. Ultimate ferda move.

And finally… the best celly of them all…. winning a State Championship with the boys.

20 years from now these kids will all be grinding away in the beer leagues and they’ll still be talking about what they did on Saturday night. Any time they’re back in town for reunions, it’ll be the first thing that everybody brings up. The kind of shit that lives on forever. Legend status. Good for them.

And in case you missed it, here’s the 2017 All Hockey Hair Team video
