A Couple Of Norwegian Teams Just Set The World Record For The Longest Hockey Game Ever

NHL.com – Storhamar defeated Sparta Warriors 2-1 in an eight overtime game on Sunday in Norway. Joakim Jensen finally ended the marathon with a goal with 2:46 remaming in the 11th period…

…The game went on for roughly eight and a half hours, a new record for longest hockey game ever played. It featured 217 minutes and 14 seconds of play. The previous record was set in 1936, a game between the Detroit Red Wings and the Montreal Maroons (176 minutes, 30 seconds).

Nearly 8 and a half hours. Just think about that. 217 minutes and 14 seconds of actual play. No. That isn’t the time of the latest episode of Stool Scenes. That’s how long it took Storhamar and Sparta to score 3 goals in an 11-period affair. The game went on for so long that friends/family of people who were at the game ended up calling the police to report them missing.

Clearly Norwegian to English isn’t the cleanest translation but you get the general gist of it. The game started at 6pm local time and didn’t end until a little after 2 in the morning. All for just one game. You think basketball players continue playing for that long? Shoot no. Goran Dragic won’t even play just because he has a little scratch over his eye.

Meanwhile we have hockey players in Norway putting in a full 9-to-5 on the ice. These guys are true competitors. It was only game 5 of a 7-game series. It’s not like this game was even to close out the series. Lesser men would have just given up after the 3rd overtime period and looked ahead to winning the next few. But not hockey players. They’re born with a heart the size of a horse’s dick. And dicks the size of a horse’s heart. Surrender isn’t in their vocabulary. They grind away until the game is over.

And while we’re giving praise to the players on the ice, let’s also give a quick shoutout to the Zamboni drivers. Apparently these guys logged around 3 hours of work during this game. That’s pretty much a Daytona 500 on a Zamboni. You think a mop boy puts in 3 hours of work for a basketball game? Forget about it. Zamboni drivers are born with a heart the size of a…. well you get the point I’m trying to make here.
