Glenny Balls Does The "Get Out" Challenge

Every sports fan has one or two events they’ll never forget. The game or shot or hit where they can say, “I was there for that.” Sometimes, you’re just in the right place, at the right time, to witness athletic heroism. Well, today was my day. Glenny Balls performed the “Get Out Challenge,” which apparently is the new big thing in the streets:

I stood there, rooted to the spot. Glenny hurtled toward me like a tornado, legs churning, tearing up the pavement with each lengthy stride. Pedestrians looked up from their phones as the earth shook; birds flew from their nests. Traffic stopped and nearby office windows were filled with the eager eyes of spectators who knew something great was happening; something bigger than all of us. As he neared, a pocket of displaced wind crashed into me, nearly knocking me off my feet, like when a truck drives past as you’re walking on the sidewalk. He was so close that I could feel the warmth of his breath. I’ll admit, I was terrified. I understand physics. The laws of inertia told me that I was about to die. I accepted my fate, said my prayers, and asked for an honorable death.

But then, at the last second, going against the constraints of the physical universe, our fearless athlete initiated a cut that broke the ankles of every innocent bystander in Madison Square Park. If you heard sirens in the Flatiron district earlier, just know that a caravan of ambulances was on its way to pick up the victims of this impossible maneuver. There were bone shards sticking out of boots and ACLs hanging from tree limbs; a scene of collateral lower-body chaos and horror. It looked like a group of mothers and tourists had tap-danced through a minefield. Even to this day, it keeps me awake. I can still hear their screams.

    Enjoy.
