Georges St-Pierre's Return Fight Will Be Against Michael Bisping For The UFC Middleweight Championship

UFC 167: St-Pierre v Hendricks

As per Dana White on a popular sports network, Georges St-Pierre will be granted a shot at the UFC Middleweight title in his first fight back, when he meets Michael Bisping in the second half of 2017. This was expected from the moment he re-signed, and people are FREAKING out about it.

The main complaint coming from MMA fans is that Yoel Romero deserves the shot more than anybody, and he does, but the UFC is a business before it’s a sports league. Always has been, always will be. Yoel is a cold blooded killer and a SERIOUS threat to Bisping’s belt, but he’s simply not as marketable as St-Pierre or Bisping for that matter. He speaks little English, had the whole “no gay Jesus” controversy, and is probably allegedly going to lose a fight to USADA in the near future.

A side complaint is that GSP is “undeserving”, which is bullshit, because he’s arguably the greatest fighter of all time, and whether you agree with the decision or not, went out on top as Champion. He gets a title shot.

For those chalking this up as an easy win for St-Pierre, check yourself before you wreck yourself. We’ve never seen GSP at 185lbs (he fought at 170lbs in the past) and he considered coming back at 155lbs for his return. Bisping will be much, much bigger than Georges and his wrestling is phenomenal. It’s a tough fight for both, and with the storyline going in, it should have a great build. The fight is booked, and it’s nowhere near as absurd as it’s being made out as, so let’s just strap in and enjoy the ride.
