As I Heroically Predicted, Rickie Fowler Wins Honda Classic
Hello folks. Congrats to Rickie and also congrats to me, for on Wednesday I wrote:
Full transparency — I’m changing my strategy on these. I used to go with my own proprietary method; now I’m going with my twitter DM source. Dude DMs me every week, has been ignored for months but was finally listened to last week, and was spot on. He picked DJ, I picked DJ, we all won money.
This week, DM guy says he likes Rickie so we like Rickie. Honda winner = Rickie Fowler.
And today we’ve got:
I’m not one to pat myself on the back but that’s back-to-back correct winner predictions. Yeah you can try to credit my random DM source if you want but shame on you for not crediting me for trusting a random DM source. Anybody can send guesses and many do. Not anyone can pick the right guesses. I have. I am a hero.
DJ, 8-1? No problem. Rickie, 16-1? No problem.
Rickie’s oft considered the flashy, popular, but overrated guy in the group of young guns on Tour. Well at age 28 he’s got a Players Championship, a Deutsche Bank, a Wells Fargo, and now a Honda Classic. He’s also got a T-2nd in both the US and British Opens, a T-3 in the PGA, a T-5 at the Masters, 3 Ryder Cup appearances including a heroic and victorious 2016 showing, and a career-high 4th in the world rankings.
That’s pretty fucking good. He’s 28.
Rickie came in with a 4-shot lead and had a bit of a weird day. After pars on 1 and 2 and a birdie on 3, he looked like he may come apart a bit with this weird putt on 4.
He then yanked one into a lake and made double on 6. He only hit 2 fairways on the front nine, which may have been this dude’s fault.
But ultimately this right here saved him.
Through 16 holes he built himself a nice 5-shot lead. He did spray one into the drink on 17 and yank one into a bunker on 18, but it didn’t matter. He still took down an impressive 4-stroke victory.
Shoutout to these dudes who win fans of the week.
Hell of a week for Rickie. Hell of a 2 weeks for me. See everyone Tuesday for a brand new episode of the world famous “Fore Play,” sporting yet another phenomenal guest, and Wednesday for the WGC Mexico preview. Can’t wait.
