We Had A Successful Mike Legg/Michigan/Lacrosse Goal In The AHL Last Night But The Announcer Stole The Show

HE DID IT! HE DID IT! THE MICHIGAN PLAY! …. WE’RE GOING BACK TO CALI! WE’RE GOING TO SPORTSCENTER! …. ONE OF THE MOST SPECTACULAR GOALS YOU WOULD SEE IN THE NATIONAL, AMERICAN, SWEDISH, RUSSIAN, BRITISH, KAZAKHSTAN. THERE IS NO COUNTRY THAT WOULD NOT BOW TO THE GREATNESS OF THAT GOAL!!!!

Listen. The Mike Legg/Michigan/Lacrosse goal is always going to put asses in the seats. Even though it happens at least a few times every year, people still go wild for it.

It would be nice if we, as a hockey community, could ever come up with one uniform term for what to call it. But yeah, people always go crazy for it and luckily last night, the San Diego Gulls announcer went APE SHIT on the call. That’s the thing. The goal itself has become pretty much a dime a dozen. You can go check out any peewee game these days and find a few kids who can pull this off. But when you have an announcer break out “there’s no country in the world that wouldn’t bow to the greatness of that goal”, well now you have something for the highlight reel. I’ve said this before when it comes to highlights from lower level leagues. These guys in the announcing booths are in the minors as well. They’ve gotta earn themselves a job in the NHL just like the guys on the ice. If some shmuck called this goal as if nothing out of the ordinary happened, well then that jack wagon would be destined to stay in the Always Hungry League for the rest of his broadcasting career. But homie on the call last night? Well I can tell he has greatness lying ahead for him in his future. Need to get Doc Emrick to start mentoring him right away.

P.S. – I’ve said this before but I’m kind of out on the Michigan goal. Yeah, it’s a sweet move but like I said, it happens way too frequently now. Need someone to come in and spice it up a little bit. With that being said, I don’t think we’ve ever seen it successfully pulled off in the NHL. Tyler Ennis came close on Martin Luther King Jr Day against the Stars. So maybe that’s what it’ll take for me to be back in on it. Get someone with the balls to pull this off in the NHL and I’m all in again.
