Chip Kelly Is "Fine" With Being A NFL Assistant Coach...May I Ask Why?

PFT – Chip Kelly seems to know he’s done as an NFL head coach, and he seems to be OK with that — especially if it means he won’t have to deal with office politics. Kelly told Jay Glazer of FOX that he’s happy to be an assistant coach in the NFL after failing as a head coach in Philadelphia and San Francisco. “I’ll go be an offensive coordinator somewhere,” Kelly told Glazer. Glazer said he also learned from talking to Kelly that issues with fired 49ers G.M. Trent Baalke were a major problem for Kelly in San Francisco. “For weeks and weeks and weeks, he’s known that Trent Baalke has been trying to undermine him and get him out,” Glazer said. This is the second report in as many days that paints Baalke as an obstacle in the path of Kelly’s success, the first being the report that Kelly wanted to draft Dak Prescott and Baalke refused. In fairness to Baalke, it should be noted that we haven’t heard his side of the story. But suffice to say, it’s unlikely anyone is going to hire either Kelly to be a head coach again, or Baalke to be a G.M. again.

By now we know Chip has been canned by the 49ers and was feuding with the GM along the way. Big whoop. Unless you’re a disciple from the Book Of Hinkie, a .142 winning % isn’t good for business. And it’s not a shock to see Chip not playing well with others, even though Howie Roseman and Trent Baalke seem like a real pleasure to work with…in the esteemed words of our President-Elect – NOT.

But as far as Chip still wanting to be in the NFL…dude…give it up. And this is coming from a former extreme Chip Kelly nut tugger. The show’s over, man. The curtain is closed. It’s not like being a coordinator in the NFL is a bad job. Hell, I’d love to be making millions calling plays in the league than sit here and be ridiculed daily over my footwear/head-shape/life. But why the hell doesn’t he fade into the sunset of some Pac-12 school where he belongs? Chip could sit on his own fist and do NOTHING while the best recruits roll in and the greatest teams to never win it all could be put together year in and year out. There’s nothing to gain and even more to lose in the league. I don’t get it.

Honestly, I highly doubt Chip Kelly would accept being an underling to anyone at this point. However, Josh McDaniels is getting mucho interest for his 3rd run as a HC during his short lifetime. If that happens, I can definitely see Lord Belichick bring on his football butt buddy Chip Kelly to be his offensive coordinator. So of course that’ll lead to another 4 rings and

Never forget the hype, and what once was. Remember when Nick Foles not only played football, but played it well? Those were the goddamn days.
