Is Tomorrow Night's Blue Jackets vs Wild New Years Eve Showdown The Biggest Regular Season Game In NHL History?

Minnesota Wild v Columbus Blue Jackets

Against all odds, it happened. It actually mother friggin’ happened. Last night the Columbus Blue Jackets beat Winnipeg 5-3 to win their 14th straight game. Then following right behind them, the Minnesota Wild took down the New York Islander 6-4 to win their 12th straight game. Just actually sit back and think about what’s going on right now. A team in the National Hockey League is currently on a 12-game bender and it’s not even the longest win streak in the league right now. But finally, one of the streaks must come to an end. Two streaks will enter, one will survive. Because the next game for both the Wild and the Blue Jackets are against each other. Tomorrow. New Years Eve. 6 pm ET.

I know there have been some big NHL regular season games in April with major playoff implications on the line. But this has literally never happened before. This is the first time in NHL history that two teams with win streaks of 7+ wins have gone up against each other. First time in the HISTORY of the league that turns 100 years old the next day. From 1917-2016, this has never happened before. And now it’s two teams that came into the league in 2000 going toe-to-toe. Bobrovsky vs Dubnyk. Two teams that both should have kept Marian Gaborik going at it. There’s no line on the game yet but Vegas will give the edge to the Blue Jackets. Here’s my only suggestion to the NHL since I know Gary Bettman is probably reading this blog right now…

A game of this proportion can’t be ended with a shootout. So I propose that if the teams are tied at the end of regulation, this game goes to a continuous 3-on-3 overtime until somebody wins. You will find a grand total of zero people in the entire world who disagree with that plan. Because I think I speak for everybody when I say I’ll flip the fuck out if this goes to a shootout.

Here are some Hockey Hugs to get you HYPE AF for tomorrow night’s game. Can’t wait.

And if the NHL had anybody with a brain instead of a bag of shit in their skull, they’ll make sure this game gets on to NBC Sports Network.
