Shots Fired! Greg Popovich Fires A Subliminal At Steph Curry

Over the weekend, Greg Popovich was talking about Kawhi Leonard and he couldn’t help but take a shot at the gawd Steph Curry. And while Pop has never been the guy to crave or hoard media attention, the Spurs have been getting absolutely zero shine for their mechanically excellent start. The Warriors, Cavs, Clippers, Russ Westbrook, Anthony Davis, James Harden, even the freaking Timberwolves dominate headlines while the Spurs plug along, quietly excellent. Here’s Pop’s whole quote.

“He’s never going to be a towel waver,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. “He speaks to me about things that he sees now. He comes into timeouts, if he’s not happy with what’s going on on the court. That’s all good.

“I’d rather have him do that than beat his chest and wiggle his shoulders and stare at the camera and all that other crap,” Pop continued. “That doesn’t seem to make much sense. I’d rather have it the other way and work on him to be a leader in the timeouts, in the locker room, on the plane. That kind of stuff.”

They’re an anomaly because the Spurs aren’t a sexy team if you don’t like basketball, but if you do, they are just liquid gold (which some people find sexy, alright?). The amount of detail that goes into making it look effortless is way more than we give them credit for.

Will Kawhi Leonard ever win an MVP? If he doesn’t, is it a problem with the league? Just because he doesn’t #brand himself as much with a signature beard, unibrow or flamboyant fashion sense? Kawhi Leonard is that kid from high school who was kind of a quiet guy, but who was the absolute man. Kind of like Milmore. Doesn’t drown you in words, talking your ear off, but you just love him cause he’s cool as shit. And if this makes it sound like I want to bang Milmore, I do.

But yeah, go Kawhi!
