Washington Post - Chicago’s win means Game 5 between the Nationals and Dodgers in D.C. is the only one on the MLB schedule Thursday, which means it will be played in prime-time (8:08 p.m. first pitch), which means fans likely won’t be able to rely on Metro to get home. Metro has suspended early openings and late closings for special events during its yearlong SafeTrack maintenance program; the last train guaranteed to allow riders to make their transfers will leave the Navy Yard station at 11:20 p.m. 11:39 p.m. on Thursday. Tuesday’s Game 4 in Los Angeles took 3 hours 44 minutes to complete, which was the quickest game of the series. Monday’s Game 3 lasted over four hours.
Metro board Chairman Jack Evans, who raised the possibility of making an exception for the World Series at the last board meeting, warned that “it’s going to look foolish if 15,000 people have to get up and leave the game.”

It sucks. It fucking sucks. DC goes 100 years without doing maintenance to the Metro. It caught on fire every day for 3 months. So they finally, finallyyyyy decided to do a mass overhaul on it, fix every issue, and get it running correctly again, which means fans won’t be able to use it for the Nats game. It’s just so DC Metro. Refusing to keep it open a minute later to help the city. Why start now I guess? I get it, they made this “SafeTrack” maintenance plan, but they are acting like they are doing US a favor. No, idiots. The Metro was broken. They can easily do a favor for the residents of DC who have put up with their bullshit for way too long and keep it open a little later tonight.
Many, many people in DC, like New York, don’t own cars. Nats Park is easily accessible by Metro. The fact a top 10 market in the United States doesn’t have a functioning public transportation system is absolutely fucking ridiculous. Add in the fact every game in the playoffs seems to go 8 hours with 20 pitching changes, it’s going to suck for everyone involved. It’s either 50 dollar Ubers, 50 dollar parking lots, or leaving the game early to catch the train. If the Nats are winning, you miss the celebration, if the Nats are losing, it looks like fans are leaving early like sour sports. Such a no-win situation. DC Metro does it again.
