"Friends" With Wilmer, Noah, and Yo

In this world it often seems like you’re either a Friends fan (mostly chicks) or decidedly NOT a Friends fan (I think a lot of hardos in there.) I think I’m one of the few people in the middle there. I dont mind Friends. I’m not putting it on any Mount Rushmores. None of the characters made my funniest TV characters. But I can talk to you about the episode where Joey and Chandler do trivia versus Monica and Rachel to switch apartments. I will chuckle if you yell “PIV-OT!” in the right situation. I know how to put emphasis on weird words like Chandler. I know about the Ross and Rachel saga and that period of time where Rachel was getting her brains fucked out by that Spanish guy. Its not even in the same stratosphere of shows like The Office and Seinfeld but it was on for like 200 years and if youre a normal ass American you’ve seen a lot of episodes and know what its all about.

And hands down the only part of Friends that absolutely WAS elite was the opening theme. I bought the whole damn Rembrandts album for “I’ll Be There For You.” And so right on the heels of Cespedes using Circle of Life, Wilmer dropping The Friends Theme on everybody’s asses has set Mets Twitter on fire. Every joke, every reference, every comparison has something to do with Rachel Ross Monica Chandler Phoebe and Joey. And if you’re not a TV hardo its fun. It seems like over the course of 162 games theres always a ton of storylines for your favorite baseball team. They come and go, and they are funny little wrinkles throughout the year. I might be biased but it seems like theres a lot more of these things that happen to the Mets. Parakeets and raccoons and Lion King and Friends. Tears and failed trades. Noah going dicks out for Harambe. Every single thing Bartolo does. And the Friends joke with Wilmer is another one to add to the list. Everyone at the park clapping along with the song when Wilmer walks up to the plate is awesome. Obviously none of this matters if the team loses but right now they’ve won 12 of 16 with complete minor league SLOP filling in for the injured players and they’re only 1.5 games out of the first Wild Card and so its another layer of fun. I think most of us are already embracing the Wilmer-Friends fun, but if you’re not, get on board now. Rest of September should be fun.

Unless its not because this is the Mets and its September and they often get stuck in second gear down the stretch! Could they BE any more annoying in September!

PS – If you think Noah Syndergaard doesnt somehow parlay this into smashing Jennifer Anniston you’re crazy.

PPS – The Noah Mr. Met beef is awesome. I hope he keeps it going.
