The Oakland A's Traded Coco Crisp To The Cleveland Indians

Indians v Braves

He’s coming home, Tribe fans. He’s coming home. Tell the world he’s coming home. Let the rain wash away all the pain of yesterday. He doesn’t have much left in the tank, but Coco Crisp is coming home.

The number one most important thing here is that Coco is going from a situation where his teammates were beating the shit out of each other in the clubhouse, and giving each other concussions, to the second best team in the American League, the same team where he played his first four major league seasons, with a real chance to make a trip to the World Series.

The downside is that I’m not sure how much his playing time is going to improve with Cleveland, but I’m sure he’d much rather deal with limited playing time for a contender than deal with limited playing time for the last place shit show Oakland A’s. In addition to that, there’s obviously the familiarity with playing in Cleveland, too. Beyond having the four years of experience in Cleveland, Coco also played under Indians manager Terry Francona for three years in Boston.

Things did not end well in Oakland for Crisp because of that aforementioned playing time, but it was more than just not getting the opportunity. Coco was outspoken about the fact that he believed the A’s were keeping him out of the lineup intentionally in order to keep his 2017 option based on plate appearances from kicking in. With Cleveland, I’m sure Crisp will see a decent amount of playing time in the outfield, and in pinch running situations, especially as the postseason draws closer. At this stage of his career, his defense and his base running ability continue to be his greatest strength, thus making him an enticing option for a team looking to make a run in the postseason.

Love how the A’s are insisting that Coco being a disgruntled player has nothing to do with trading him. He’s a free agent at the end of the year (because of you), your clubhouse is a dumpster fire, and you pissed off the player, which I’m assuming is contributing to that dumpster fire atmosphere you’ve got going on there. Don’t act like you’re doing the guy a favor. I mean, you are — but it’s not out of the kindness of your heart or something. You’re essentially doing yourself a favor by not having to look the guy in the eye anymore that you’ve been fucking over for the last couple of months.
