The Last Time Tiger Woods Played Competitive Golf Was One Year Ago Today

God damn it. Hey SportsCenter, fuck you. Thanks for reminding me. I know you’re just doing your job but can you not. Here I was enjoying a peaceful Tuesday and you sucker punch me with that tweet. I can’t believe it’s been a year since we last saw our hero play a round of competitive golf. A whole year. And the fucked up thing is we have no idea when he’s gonna return. It’s not like he’s announced a potential return date. Nope. Nothing. We’re at the year mark and we’re still just floating out in ether with no plan. He says the same things over and over and over and over again. He talks about recovery. He talks about missing the competitive juices (not a pun). He talks about missing the guys on Tour. He says he’ll be back. At this point I’m not sure if he’s trying to convince us or himself that he’ll ever play again. A sad day indeed.

By the way, this obviously is no longer about saving golf and it hasn’t been for awhile. Golf is in the greatest hands possible with all the young talent. This is now just about seeing if old-as-fuck Tiger can get healthy enough to make one more run at it. Run at what? I’m not entirely sure. Jack’s record seems like a distant dream at this point. Right now I’d be happy with one more stretch of golf where he just makes cuts. Or maybe I’m just depressed on this one year anniversary and maybe he’ll come back and beat Jack’s record. Fingers crossed. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. I’ll give up on Tiger Woods the day he tells me to and retires. Until then, I still believe.
