NBC- U.S. Olympic swimmers Ryan Lochte, Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger and Jimmy Feigen were robbed at gunpoint while in Rio de Janeiro overnight Saturday, NBC News has confirmed. Following conflicting reports — including the IOC denying any incident took place — Lochte himself confirmed with TODAY’s Billy Bush that he and the other swimmers were robbed at gunpoint.

“We got pulled over, in the taxi, and these guys came out with a badge, a police badge, no lights, no nothing just a police badge and they pulled us over,” Lochte said. “They pulled out their guns, they told the other swimmers to get down on the ground — they got down on the ground. I refused, I was like we didn’t do anything wrong, so — I’m not getting down on the ground. “And then the guy pulled out his gun, he cocked it, put it to my forehead and he said, “Get down,” and I put my hands up, I was like ‘whatever.’ He took our money, he took my wallet — he left my cell phone, he left my credentials.”

I’m not buying for a minute that Lochte just said “whatever” like the cool kid in school and didn’t listen to orders from a bunch of crazy armed fake Brazilian police that held a cocked gun to his head. I’ve watched enough hostage and robbery movies to know that guy gets shot 100 times out of 100. Don’t believe me, go ask Joseph Takagi. I’ve also seen Lochte take too many losses inside and outside of the pool to buy his side of the story. You tell me that Nolan Ryan or Charles Oakley pulled this move, I would believe you because those guys are real life bad motherfuckers. Even Michael Phelps pulling this move wouldn’t have totally surprised me because he probably feels like he’s bulletproof when he’s at the Olympics. But not Ryan Lochte.

*Unless Phelps has actually broken Lochte to the point where he doesn’t actually care if he lives or dies anymore. Can’t discount that side of the coin I suppose
