Wake Up With JD Martinez Hitting A Game-Winning Home Run On The First Pitch He Saw In His Return

Chicago White Sox v Detroit Tigers

Woah, where the fuck did the Tigers come from? This was a .500 team on June 26 at 38-38. Since then, Detroit has the best record in baseball. Over their last 31 games, the Tigers are 21-10, and they’ve now won 8 straight games to move into sole possession of the second Wild Card, knocking the Red Sox out of a playoff spot for the first time since May.

The scary thing is, the Tigers are only getting better. They finally got JD Martinez back, who had been on the disabled list since June 16 with a fractured right elbow, and he ended up pinch hitting and blasting the game-winning home run off of Chris Sale in the 8th inning last night. Jordan Zimmermann will be activated today, and, tonight, he’ll make his first start since being placed on the disabled list on July 4 with a strained neck. Hopefully the rest did him some good, because Zimmermann had a 7.06 ERA over his last five starts before he hit the shelf.
