Derek Fisher Reportedly Wants To Return To The NBA...As A Player
ESPN- Ex-New York Knicks coach Derek Fisher hinted at a possible comeback as a player on Tuesday night when he posted a workout video with the hashtag “Imnotdoneyet.” Sources told ESPN on Wednesday that Fisher has indeed been “exploring options and expressing interest in playing again.” It is unclear what those options are, but Fisher’s return to the NBA as a player after coaching in the league would be a rarity.
Nobody to blame for this rumor other than The Zen Master. Derek Fisher was hired for a job that he was wildly unqualified for, sucked at it, and then got fired and probably collected a nice paycheck for his troubles. Everything just falls into place for Fisher like Homer Simpson while we all watch him like Frank Grimes. So for Fisher to think that he can come back into the NBA at the ripe age of 41 probably isn’t that much of a stretch in his head, even if being an absolute failure as a coach while also being rumored to sleeping with your players’ girlfriends probably isn’t the best way for the Slippery Fish to get back into a locker room.
Or maybe this is all part of the long con by Matt Barnes. He still hasn’t gone at Fisher since their last scuffle and didn’t respond when Fisher wished Barnes’ ex a Happy Mothers Day.
If/when Fisher comes back into the league, any hit Barnes lands is just a flagrant foul, not an assault. Sure breathing on a guy in the NBA is now a flagrant foul (Insert any Jeff Van Gundy meltdown here). But still, it beats the hell out of getting the police involved. I’m thinking something along the lines of what Dennis Rodman did to Scottie Pippen back in the day.
Then again, who am I trying to disparage Fisher from his dream. Derek, if you are reading this, let me leave you with the greatest motivational speech ever given on God’s green Earth.
And I know of a certain super team that could use a veteran point guard that has a habit of coming through with big shots late. Start printing the Derek Fisher jerseys!
