Rockies Trevor Story Will Miss The Rest Of The Season With A Torn UCL In His Thumb

Colorado Rockies versus the Los Angeles Dodgers

Story1

Story2

No pun intended, but this story sucks. Rockies rookie sensation Trevor Story’s season is over, as the 23-year-old shortstop will go under the knife to repair a torn UCL in his left thumb.

About two weeks ago, the Rockies were eight games under .500 at 43-51. They’ve now won of 10 of their last 12 games to get back to .500, which probably doesn’t seem like that big of a deal, but they’re actually only 3.5 games back of a Wild Card spot, and tied in the win column with the Pittsburgh Pirates. I didn’t like the Rockies’ chances of making the postseason even WITH Story in their lineup every day, and I like them a hell of a lot less now that he’s gone for the year.

Even if Story does not return in 2016, his rookie season will go down as a huge success. The former first round pick hit .272 with a .909 OPS, a National League-leading 27 home runs, 21 doubles and 72 RBI. His .567 slugging percentage is also fifth in the National League, as was his RBI total. Corey Seager will likely end up taking home the National League Rookie of the Year award, but Story should still finish second, despite his second-ending injury.

Even though it ended on a down note, it was still one hell of a debut for Story in the MLB.
