Wes Welker Said That Julian Edelman Is Off-Brand Tom Brady

Pretty awkward exchange all around there, right? I’m assuming Toucher and Rich asked Welker this because Welker and Edelman have never been exactly friends so they knew they’d get a pseudo-inflammatory answer, but I can’t say that I’ve ever thought of Edelman as an off-brand Tom Brady. I always just thought they were close and Edelman looked up to him then never did too much reading into it. I mean even those “comparisons” were weird. They’re both athletes who have brands that use their initials and number and they’re both athletes who use social media? GASP! In 2016?! Who would have ever thunk it?!

They even referenced Edelman and Amendolas cop video as if that was “stealing” Brady’s Facebook video idea, because he was the first person to ever do that, but, if I’m not mistaken, Edelman was doing that Juice Tyme stuff before Brady was ever on Facebook.

I just think the whole conversation was weird. Is Edelman as famous as Tom Brady? Um, no. Heck of a job getting to the bottom of that one. Is Welker a little bitter about Brady and Edelman’s relationship? Probably, who wouldn’t be? Is Edelman’s social media shit pretty corny sometimes? Yeah, it is. But I don’t think two athletes using social media makes one off-brand.

Respect Welker being vague about the “errand boy” question though, that’s how you keep that top dog status. “Yeah… earlier… (like seven years ago when he was a rookie).” Call me crazy, but I don’t think Tom Brady is treating Julian Edelman like a little child who has to fetch him drinks in 2016. Pretty sure Edelman has earned his seat at the big boy’s table.
