Hollywood Reporter – Fargo has found its next leading lady. The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon is set to star in season three of the FX anthology opposite Ewan McGregor, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Coon will portray Gloria Burgle, a practical woman who grabs the fire extinguisher when the bacon catches fire and everyone else panics. The chief of police in Edna Valley and a newly divorced mother, she struggles to understand this new world around her where people connect more intimately with their phones than the people directly in front of them. As previously announced, McGregor will take on the dual roles of brothers Emmit and Ray Stussy in what will be his first TV series regular role. Production on the third installment of Fargo is set to begin later this year for a 2017 debut on FX.

Oh fuck yea! Fantastic choice. Leftovers gets cut short, go pillage the cast. Lets get Kevin Garvey and his gigantic dick to replace Ewan McGregor. Fuck it! Let Kevin and Nora do their cop thing in Minnesota. Lets get Jill and Aimee in the mix just because they are sexy little minxes. Actually I have an idea lets just not cancel the Leftovers. A lot easier that way.

In a show of a lot of good acting I think Carrie Coon stands out the most. Can very very easily see her pulling off the strong female cop/character that Fargo has done really well in its first 2 seasons. I can also seeing her crushing the Minnesota accent. Seems like she already probably talks that way.

Its funny to see the way Fargo has excelled and continued to grow where True Detective flopped after season 1. I’m sure coherent writing from a team of people on Fargo vs one ego maniac on True Detective is a huge part of it. But I also think their casting makes a big difference. True Detective S1 struck gold with McConaughey and Woody and then swung for the fences with basically 4 full blown movie stars. I think for the most part you could call that idea a failure. Fargo, on the other hand, I think has done a fantastic job with their casting. They’ve had their share of bigger names – Ted Danson, Kirsten Dunst, Landry Todd from Breaking Night Lights, Billy Bob, Bob Odenkirk. Now Ewan McGregor. Definitely some major stars. But they’ve also balanced it perfectly with lesser names that have carried the bulk of the acting. Molly and Lou Solverson in season 1, the entire Gearhardt family in season 2. Some major pieces that werent big names that almost distracted from the show itself the way the True Detective foursome did. I think Carrie Coon is that perfect type of edition. The very small nerdy Leftovers fanbase is excited but nobody else really is. When she kills it for what should probably be Fargo’s break out season though, everyone will know the name.
