I Could Not Be Happier For The Turnaround Season Ian Desmond Is Having

Houston Astros v Texas Rangers

Last season had to be the worst year of Ian Desmond’s life. He struggled mightily for the Nats, hitting .233 with a .290 OBP, right after turning down a 107 million dollar extension. As I wrote in this blog, he was nothing but a class act who gambled hard on himself and lost. He couldn’t figure it out at the plate or in the field, and instead of getting a 100 million dollar deal, signed in the offseason with Texas for 8 million and then had to learn a new position to get into the lineup. And what a difference a season has made. The 30 year old is hitting .320 with 15 home runs, 54 RBIs, and a .372 OBP to go along with 15 steals. Additionally he only has 6 errors in the outfield, after committing 27 errors in 155 games at short last season.

I love a good redemption story. Ian Desmond for sure had some long, longggg nights thinking and wondering about that 107 million dollars he turned down. He wasn’t even signed by the Rangers until February 29th. What a signing by them, who now sit 20 games over .500 and lead the AL West by 6.5. Not only is Desmond going to the All Star Game, but he should also get quite a few MVP votes, and most importantly, he’ll sign a juicy, well deserved offseason contract as well.
