Stephen Colbert Telling The Story Of How He Met His Wife Is Sickeningly Sweet

Fucking Colbert. Sometimes I forget he even exists now that he’s taken over for David Letterman on CBS. It just seems like he’s been outta sight ever since the Colbert Report signed off a couple years ago. Sure he gets paid more money and, like I said, it’s Letterman’s spot and that comes along with a certain air of prestige. But you have to wonder if he regrets making the move away from Comedy Central. You can’t fault a guy for wanting to take on a new challenge but it feels very Fred-Holberg-to-the-Bulls-ish. And while he gets more viewers on The Late Show, do those extra viewers matter? It just seems like Comedy Central was more of a fit for Colbert and the character he played as opposed to the real-life version he is now on CBS.

Anyyyyyyyway. What a sickeningly sweet story about how he met his wife. There was thought, across the room eye-fucking, familiar families, yearning, poetry, Greek mythology, the works. Great story. The stories of my friends who are married go something like this: “Uh yeah. We got drunk at a bar, we both like Queen and cocktail shrimp and now we’re hitched with two kids.” That’s romance in the 2010s, people.
