The Jersey Bryce Wore During The Infamous "Papelbon Choking Game" Is Up For Auction

Lelands - It was the snapshot that best defined the dysfunction and disappointment of the Washington Nationals’ 2015 season; superstar outfielder Bryce Harper scuffling with past-his-prime reliever Jonathan Papelbon in the dugout during a late-season home game against the Phillies, during which Papelbon imploded in the ninth inning against his former team. Presented here is the very same home white #34 jersey Harper wore during the altercation. There is dirt on the back of the size 48 shirt and it is signed number “4” in black on the back with a “Luke 1:37″ inscription. There’s also the MLB hologram “HZ798263.” Whether or not you classify Harper as a model Christian, the scripture in question reads: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” Indeed. Pictured are also exact photo matches of Harper wearing the jersey.

You know, at first I wrote this blog saying this was pretty cool. How it would be neat to own this jersey. My reasoning was as follows: Bryce Harper is going to accomplish A LOT during his long MLB career. He’ll set all sorts of records, make all sorts of All Star teams, and win all sorts of MVPs. But even with all that, the Papelbon choking incident will never be forgotten. Papelbon choking Bryce will always be a memorable part of his career, and it’s a cool piece of history to own the jersey he was wearing that day.

But then I realized, fuckkkk this jersey. Because Papelbon is the worst. Just the worst. Every time you look at this jersey, it reminds you of a terrible season and a scumbag of a baseball player who is still somehow on this roster. You don’t want to remember your favorite player for the time Jonathan Papelbon tried to get him to tap out. Hell no. While it is a cool piece of history, as the clip of them two will be played forever, this jersey should be burned and destroyed. That’s the only way to put this entire saga behind us, to burn the jersey. Just like how Cubs fans need to burn Bartman, whoever buys this jersey needs to light it aflame.
