Gotta Respect These Fans Who Brawled With Knives And Bats At A Wheelchair Basketball Game

This vid is from 2012 when fans had to be teargassed during a game.

(Source)A brawl at a wheelchair basketball match in Germany between rival Turkish supporters left seven fans needing treatment in hospital, police say. The game was part of the four-day European Champions Cup, a club competition being played in the eastern German town of Zwickau. About 60 fans from the Istanbul-based clubs Besiktas and Galatasaray were involved. They began attacking each other with knives and baseball bats. Police in Saxony say none of the injuries sustained by the Turkish supporters were serious. The match on Saturday at Zwickau’s sports hall had to be cancelled. There is a fierce rivalry between the Istanbul sports clubs Besiktas and Galatasaray, whose football teams are two of the most successful in Turkey. It is not the first time that violence has broken out between supporters of their wheelchair basketball sides. The incident is not the first between the clubs at a wheelchair basketball match. Back in 2012, fans of the two sides had to be separated by riot police using teargas in Istanbul. Fans of the two clubs are banned from visiting opposing grounds for football and basketball games but the ban does not extend to wheelchair basketball.

If you can’t tip your cap to this kind of passion from Besiktas and Galatasaray fans then I don’t know if I can help you. They hate each other so much that they’re willing to brutally fight with deadly weapons right in the middle of a wheelchair basketball game. I miss when Boston and New York had this kind of passionate disdain for one another, when it didn’t matter if you were at a Bruins game or a Boston Pops concert, as long as there was a gathering of Bostonians there was going to be a “YANKEES SUCK” chant and someone with a New York state license was going to get punched in the face. Those days are gone for us, but not for these folks over in Turkey. You can ban them from attending away basketball and football games, you can schedule the games in Germany, it doesn’t matter, they’re going to find a way to try and kill each other. That’s some Hatfields and McCoys shit. Gotta be the only kind of sporting event where you can arrive as a fan and have a good chance at leaving as a member of the team.
