Optimistic Nate Says Teams Come Back From Being Down 3-1 All The Time
Weber, Weber, Weber. What can you even say? He tried to make a play on the puck which was heading straight for Crosby’s stick, but all he did was set up Hornquist for the GWG. And that was game. I did my post game blog last night- the Caps lost, we move on to game 5. What can you say? The NHL playoffs are a motherfucker. A bounce one way, a quarter of an inch on a shot the other way, and the Caps could very well have a 3-1 lead and not vice versa. But that’s not how sports work, unfortunately. When it comes down to it, Weber shouldn’t have been out there to begin with, he put a beautiful pass onto Hornqvist’s stick, and game 4 was in the books faster than you could blink.
The Flyers series was easy and fun. Just got to make jokes the whole time as it was the Caps were never in jeopardy of losing. This series, zero fun sir. I said coming into it the real playoffs start now. And boy did they ever. Murray has been outstanding in net for the Pens, their PK has held the Caps PP in check, and they’ve held the Caps without a shot for long stretches of time multiple times. The Pens were the hottest team since the New Year, and it shows.
However, the optimist in me says this series isn’t over. Teams come back from being down 3-1 all the time. And the Caps are a very good hockey team. Very, very good. 2 of the next 3 are at home. It’s not crazy to think they can pull this off, especially with how well they play. As good as the Pens are, the Caps are no slouches. Even the biggest Caps hater alive know this to be true. It won’t be easy, but it is possible. Just one game at a time, starting Saturday in DC. Win that, go up to Pitt in another must-win game. If they take the W on the road, then it’s back to DC for game 7.
PS: The more I think about it, the more nuts it is about how the NHL seeds the playoffs, making it so the best 2 teams are facing off in the Semis instead of the ECF. Of course they’d have to play each other anyway, but this series should be to go to the Cup. Let’s have the best teams playing for a shot at the Cup, not in the semis.
