The Drought Is Over: Trevor Story Finally Homered Again

Rockies rookie shortstop Trevor Story made history by homering in his first four major league games, two of which were two-home run games. He took a game off in game five, and then hit another one in game six. Then, we waited. We waited for six, long, depressing, painful, lonely games. But then it happened. Story hit an eighth inning home run on Monday night in Cincinnati to give the Rockies a 2-1 lead. They’d go on to win the game 5-1, but it was Story who broke the tie and put the wheels in motion to push the Rockies to an 8-5 record, tied with the Dodgers for the best record in the NL West.

With his latest home run, Story still leads the majors with 8, and also leads the majors in slugging percentage by a single point over Bryce Harper (.855). But he also leads the majors in strikeouts (23), which led me to believe that he might be getting caught up in the home run hype a little bit. However, I looked at his minor league numbers, and the last time that he had more games played than strikeouts in a season was when he played 122 games in A ball in 2012 and struck out 121 times, so you get my point. He’s going to strike out quite a bit, but you’ll take the offensive production when he actually does connect. What I do find odd, though, is that for all the power that he clearly has, he only has two doubles. He actually has two triples, too, that he hit in the same game, and they likely would’ve been home runs in any other ballpark other than Coors Field. Come to think of it, he’s only hit five singles, so he’s hit more home runs than anything else.
