In Honor of Tubby Smith Taking The Memphis Job, #TBT To When He Dressed Up As Shaft And Promptly Fell Off His Motorcycle

ESPN – Texas Tech coach Tubby Smith has agreed to be the men’s basketball coach at Memphis.

Smith called Red Raiders athletic director Kirby Hocutt to tell him he was accepting the Tigers job, Texas Tech senior associate athletic director Robert Giovannetti told ESPN’s Andy Katz on Thursday.

The 64-year-old Smith had three years remaining on his contract at Texas Tech, and he is obligated to pay a $900,000 buyout to the school.

I don’t really care about Tubby Smith leaving Texas Tech for Memphis. But I did want to take a quick 15 minutes here to acknowledge it because, and only because, it gives me a chance to post my favorite Tubby Smith moment of all time.
