It Has Finally Arrived

Feels like a second ago.

But we’re back.

Here we go. A Cubs season with actual World Series aspirations. A team that everyone has projected to win 95 plus games. Game 1 tonight, which is bullshit because I hate opening on the road especially in the AL, and a long summer of what hopefully will be some fantastic baseball.

Before we start this season I wanted to get some quick thoughts down and on record. Yes I am nervous as fuck. I know there is this national undercurrent of Cubs hatred that is slowly rising. I can feel it. It has a lot to do with the fact that every baseball writer in America has been sucking the Cubs dick the past 3-4 months. I get it, no one likes a team that has been crowned before ever accomplishing anything. It makes perfect sense in my brain. Just know that’s not what the real fans are thinking. I’m nervous as shit because I think this team is good enough and therefore the expectations are real and soul crushing if not met. Last year wasn’t a fluke run, it was the beginning of something bigger, and I do think the Cubs are the best team in the National League but I also thought the Nationals were the best team in the National League last year on this day, so it all doesn’t mean shit. I get that, any true baseball fan gets that. But with that said I’m not going to apologize for my excitement because some Mets fan is pissed his team isn’t getting coverage, or some Pirates fan is still salty from losing the Wild Card game. Cubs season has arrived and the buzz is going to be off the charts. It won’t feel real until I’m freezing my ass off drinking a beer in the bleachers next Monday, but opening day is still opening day, and if you didn’t wake up this morning with an extra pep in your step, well then you’re not alive, or you’re a Reds fan.

PS

I’ve got Arrieta repeating as Cy Young and Rizzo MVP. Unbiased opinion.
