Kentucky Fans Chant "GPA" At Ben Simmons

Not sure there could have possibly been worse timing for LSU to announce that Ben Simmons would not be eligible for the Wooden Award because of his 1.8 or 2.0 GPA or whatever. Riiiiiight before they hopped on the bus to play in freaking Rupp Arena.

LSU freshman Ben Simmons has not been certified by his school in order to be eligible for the Wooden Award, with a source telling ESPN on Saturday that it’s for academic-related reasons.

“From what I was told, he didn’t meet all of the requirements,” Tigers coach Johnny Jones told ESPN. “He wasn’t certified by the school to be on the ballot.” [ESPN]

Whose genius idea was that? Worst PR staff ever. But a great response from Big Blue Nation – I’d expect nothing less than thunderous GPA chants while he shoots free throws.

I mean it’s not like Ben Simmons gives a fuck about a 2.0 GPA. Not when he’ll make like 2.0 Million dollars per game in the NBA next year with his salary + that $100 mil shoe contract he’ll be getting.

Still, never a good feeling to have the whole world thinking you’re a dumbass.

SEC tournament coming up. LSU fans better hope Simmons isn’t too distracted by cramming in the library trying to get his grades up to be ready to try and make a tournament run.

Ben Simmons’ response to the Wooden news.

Asked about the reason after LSU’s loss to No. 22 Kentucky on Saturday, Simmons said: “I don’t know. I’m not too sure, but I believe I’m still the best player, so as long as I believe it, it doesn’t really matter.

“Mr. Wooden was a teacher, right?” Simmons added. “It’s a part of it. That’s their criteria. They talk about playing so much then they bring other stuff into it. It is what it is. I’m not fazed by it. I just wanted to win for my team and see how far we could go.”

Read that like 10 times and not sure I understand his point.
