You Have To Feel Bad For The Guy That Got Flooded With Texts From People Asking For Free Chipotle
So yesterday I blogged about how much I loved that Chipotle gave away free burritos to anyone who texted “raincheck” to their number. In fact the only downside I saw in it was if your number was added to a spam text chain, which are the wooooorst. It’s like being a part of a text chain that just doesn’t shut the fuck up. I hate when my phone rings or vibrates every two seconds for no good reason.
But I didn’t even think about people who have numbers that are almost the same as Chipotle’s 888-222 text number (like 888-2222). I mean having a phone number like that is kind of weird, but at least it’s easy to remember. That guy’s text message list looks like KFC’s Twitter timeline during a Royals #Contact rally in the World Series. This is the polar opposite of the guy that ended up with Sir Mix A Lot’s old number and was receiving sexts from random chicks. Because while a ton of people sending “raincheck” was annoying, I bet some weird messages and even maybe a few dick pics found their way to him just because that’s the way the Internet and people work. Henry, I’m sorry you have to be the one to bear this cross for free burritos, but living with constant buzzes and alert sounds for a few days is actually making the world a better place. Except for the people who sent a text to you by mistake. They are probably going to be pisssssed when they don’t receive their free burritos. You may want to text them back before they do some digging and find out you are the reason they didn’t get free Chipotle.
P.S. I texted for my free burrito yesterday and haven’t heard anything back other than the confirmation text, while a bunch of other people have gotten their coupons. I’m officially worried.
Update: I clicked on the confirmation link yesterday and got a “Not Ready Yet” message. I clicked it again today and things have gone off the rails.
