We've Got Flyers Prospects Fighting Each Other In The WHL
In just a few short years, Travis Sanheim (17th overall pick in 2014) and Ivan Provorov (7th overall pick in 2015) will be manning the Flyers blueline together. They, along with Shayne Gostisbehere, Sam Morin and Robert Hagg, will lead the new generation of a Flyers defensive core that is filled with talent rather than bloated contracts. But for now, they are opponents in the Western Hockey League as Sanheim is a member of the Calgary Hitmen and Provorov plays for the Brandon Wheat Kings. And last night, things got a little heated between the two after this big boy hit from Provorov in the 3rd period.
That’s a freight train hit right there. Shoulder to chest, ass to the ice. Provorov is better known for his hands than hitting, but the 19-year-old can still bring the body with the best of them. However, Travis Sanheim took exception to the hit and wasn’t going to let his future teammate get off that easy.

So it may have been more of a wrestling match than an actual fight but I still love this. This is a great sign for the future because it shows that both Sanheim and Provorov have that killer instinct. When this team is eventually going on a Stanley Cup run in 3-5 years, I need this same type of mentality. It doesn’t matter if it’s their own mother out there on the ice, I want them to take down anything and anyone who is standing in their way of winning. I don’t want this to be like the NBA where LeBron and Dwyane Wade are jerking each other off in the middle of the game because they’re friends. You have your jersey on and anybody who is wearing a different color than you is the enemy.
The boys are also both top 10 in the WHL in points among defensemen despite playing the least amount of games.
And defensively they’re both keeping shots off the board as well.
