Kmarko's NBA DraftKings Picks - January 27
Welcome back to the daily DraftKings picks where we try to get super rich playing daily fantasy basketball. As usual I’ll do a brief recap of my lineups from the week before then throw out some picks that I’m brainstorming for this weekend, and hopefully get some good feedback/tips/picks from you guys either in the comment section or on Twitter @kmarkobarstool.
Didn’t break 300 but still managed to cash.
Blog picks were nice: Durant, Rondo and Goodwin combined for 157…and featuring Durant over Boogie was a solid call.
We saw exactly what I was talking about with Archie Goodwin. He ended up with 55% ownership which is crazy high, but can you really pass up on 45 points from a 4.5K player? I’d rather lock those points in and get contrarian elsewhere.
Let’s jump in to tonight, 3 players from the 3 price tiers
PG Steph Curry $10.7K
You know the rules, I’ll only feature the most expensive guy on the board if I feel drop dead stone cold confident he’s going to smash through the 60 point mark. I could have gone a little cheaper for this price tier – I like Lebron and Durant both a lot tonight – but the fact is I think Steph is just flat out the best play for what you’re spending. Westbrook just doesn’t quite have that 80 point ceiling as long as KD is on the court, while Steph seems like he’s dropping 70+ point games nightly. You don’t need me to tell you that Steph Curry is a good basketball player. I do think he’ll be in the winning tournament lineup tonight though.
PF Paul Millsap $8.3K
Millsap is such a lunchpail guy. Just shows up to work every day, grinds it out in the paint, picks up his stuff and goes home. Oh and drops 50 fantasy points in between. I don’t know what it is but I always feel super uninspired rostering him – I think it’s the name? Paul. Paul Millsap. Sounds like a middle aged white lumberjack or something. But he’s not, he’s an NBA player as a matter of fact, and one of the top scoring PFs on a nightly basis. Usually “consistent” is something you reserve for cash games, but when that consistency is 40-55 points every night I like that just fine for tournaments.
VALUE PLAY SG Devin Booker $5.5K
Obviously Archie Goodwin is a locked in value play for as long as Knight is out, but you don’t need me to tell you that. 60% of the field is going to know that tonight. But that doesn’t mean you can’t also roll with his teammate, who is flying way more under the radar and still packs 35-40 point upside at a decently low price.
Other plays to consider:
PG: If you’re paying up but not ALL the way up, CP3 is always in play without Blake. I don’t know if it’s a Kemba night…I’d rather dip down to an upside guy like Rubio. Jeremy Lin should get plenty of run again, and in the value range I like Marcus Smart and Trey Burke getting the start.
SG: Are the Spurs a bad matchup for Harden or am I just making that up? It’s in my head, so I think I’ll be staying away. Wiggins is a good play but he doesn’t seem to have that GPP upside…I think I’ll be fine going cheap here with Booker and Archie, maybe Manu, maybe even take a shot on Will Barton and hope he gets his stroke back.
SF: Durant and Lebron are both worth spending for. Gallo has had a couple duds lately but is always in play, but I think your best bet is the mid range with Covington, Parsons or PJ Tucker. Shabazz is an interesting cheap play.
PF: Shitty position once again. I really only like Millsap and Nerlens, taking over Okafor’s minutes. Tristan Thompson and Josh Smith both have upside but are at the whim of their coaches.
C: Once again we’ve got a bunch of value options here, Alex Len and Spencer Hawes being my favorites. If you’re spending higher, I think Towns is my #1 option. Looking for him to have a beast game.
