Barstool Is Not Dead

Our plan was set.

The Patriots would beat the Broncos. The Panthers would beat the Cardinals. I would fly direct from Raleigh-Durham to Boston Logan this morning at 9am. Hank, Gaz, and I would immediately set sail on a cross-country voyage in the newly rewrapped Barstool Bus. We would pick up Big Cat in Chicago at some point tomorrow, and we’d be in Santa Clara by the end of the week. At some point in this timeline, Dave’s helicopter would touch down on the landing pad next to the hot tub grotto on top of our $15K rental house located just a couple miles from Levi’s Stadium. It would be an entire week of classic Super Bowl coverage from Barstool Sports. Pats v. Panthers. Tom v. Cam. Portnoy v. Goodell. Me v. Big Cat in infinity pool basketball. But then, something unimaginable happened… The New England Patriots lost.

Now we’re in limbo. Understandably, Dave and the rest of the guys in Boston are heartbroken, and I do feel for them. However, the biggest sporting event of the year is less than two weeks away, and this is BARSTOOL SPORTS. The thought that we won’t be there to lead the way is not only preposterous—it’s impossible. Would it be nice if Big Cat’s Bears where there? Would it be nice if KFC’s Jets where there? Would it be nice if we could put one of our seasoned vets in the field who’d guarantee incredibly well done coverage across the board? Of course it would be. But guess what? We don’t get to decide the cards we’re dealt. All we can do is make sure this company is filled with guys who’ve got the stones to play the cards we’ve got.

In this time of tremendous need for Barstool Sports, you officially have my word that I will represent our brand in the way it deserves to be represented. If Dave decides to give me the keys to the rental house—great. If he doesn’t, I’ve used www.priceline.com before. If Mr. Chernin comes to Chapel Hill to personally accompany me to San Fransisco in his personal jet—great. If he doesn’t, I’ve been on the open road before. Right now, I don’t know what it’s going to take. I don’t know how it’s going to be done. However, even if it has to come out of my own pocket, I promise you this: I’m not sleeping until my A-team is assembled. I’m only napping until there is an elaborate plan in place. Barstool Sports WILL be represented in Santa Clara. The Patriots might have lost, but this group is not done covering the NFL.

Trust me when I say I’m with you guys. I wanted to see Dave at Media Day again. I wanted to play second fiddle to Pats propaganda for two weeks in what would’ve basically been a two week paid vacay to San Francisco. However, it just wasn’t to be. So, I believe it is time. Time for what my fellow North Carolinian J. Cole alluded to in an interview in 2013,  “Sometimes you have to make room for new legends.”

Don’t text me. Don’t call me. Don’t LinkedIn DM me. I’m going to work.
