Mets Worked Out Cricket Star Kieran Powell
Metsblog - The New York Mets reportedly worked out cricket star Kieran Powell at their training facility in Port St. Lucie on Jan. 9, according to Devon Teeple of Examiner (Jan. 12). Powell, 25, is considered one of the best cricket batsman in the world. He has been playing the sport at its highest level since he was 16 years old. However, due to a recent contract dispute, Powell has decided to take some time off from the game and explore other opportunities, including the transition to baseball. When asked how the cricket swing compares to baseball, Powell said he sees similarities but knows there are adjustments to be made. “They’re the same and they’re not the same. Cricket is more low to high. As you know, being a former professional yourself, a baseball swing is trying to stay on a level plain. It’s changing the angles and getting used to that angle of the swing,” Powell said in an interview with Teeple. “That’s the major change. Your body just falls into the natural position. Every now and then, like every other baseball player, your body won’t always be in the right position when you take a swing. For the most part, it falls in to the right position and knows when and what to do.”
I give up. I cant do it anymore. We’re out here losing our front office to football. Signing cricket players to play…I dunno, the outfield I guess? Such a goddam joke. New York City franchise coming off a World Series appearance with their window wide open and we’re spending our time looking at converting fucking cricket players. There’s a handful of unsigned actual baseball players in a market thats shrinking by the minute. Cespedes is gonna end up signing for like 3 years 45 million and the Mets will be busy signing a cricket play. sm motherfuckin h.
But if we’re gonna do this, we might as well spin zone it. His real name is Kieran OMAR AKEEM Powell. Which I feel is a game changer. Kinda racist but whatever. If this dude went by Omar Akeem Powell I’d be much more excited about him.
He’s from the Leeward Islands, which is like right below the Caribbean. So basically this dude is like a Dominican. Again, also kinda racist but these are the things you gotta do when you’re trying to talk yourself into a cricket playing working out for your team. This has always been the Mets worst trait – public relations. They have no idea how to present things to their fans or the general public. So now look at what we’ve done:
“Mets looking at Caribbean slugger Omar Akeem.”
Sounds infinitely better than
“Mets working out cricket star Kieran Powell”
Option 1 I can trick myself into thinking its a good idea. Option 2 makes me think some British dude is gonna be in Flushing embarrassing the franchise. Again, none of its good. This aint football where you can grab a rugby player to be a place kicker or something. This guy is gonna fuckin suck at baseball. But if you’re gonna embarrass yourselves by looking at cricket players after a World Series appearance, at least do it right.
