Holly Holm's Last Boxing Loss Was Four Years Ago Today And Is One Of The Wildest Fights I've Seen

I saw that Tweet earlier today then our boy Mo sent me a link to the YouTube and story on the full bout. No lie, one of the crazier fights I’ve ever seen. Not because these chicks are beating the shit out of each other, although that was pretty good too. But that ref stole the show. This guy was absurd.

I’ve seen Kimbo Slice backyard brawl videos handled with more concern for a fighter’s well-being than this guy had in a damn professional bout. Was he under the impression that this was a fight to the death or something? That the ring was a gladiator colosseum and it was a last woman standing situation? Because it was one thing in the 6th when he didn’t even give Holm a count or bother to acknowledge that she was out on her feet, he got her gloves up and immediately let the lion out of its cage again. But before the final KO the ropes were literally the only thing keeping her upright he was less of a referee and more of a bully’s sidekick holding up a nerd to keep getting his ass kicked. I actually laughed out loud when he took her limp body off the ropes like she was a Halloween decoration on November 1st. I thought, “OK, he’s gotta call this now.” NOPE! Steadied Holms’ body, put a bull’s eye on her chin and called Mathis in to finish the job. Incredibly entertaining fight and the fact it took at least a decade off Holms’ life only slightly takes away from my enjoyment.
