Don't Look Now, But The Flyers Are Going Streaking

rocky-creed

^That feeling when the Flyers and Sixers both win on the same night.

Flyers 4, Senators 2 | (10-10-5)

Well make that 3 in a row for your Philadelphia Flyers as they are currently on their longest winning streak of the season and undefeated in the month of December. Now I’m telling you that this is what the Flyers are best at. They are so very good at giving you hope that maybe they’re actually a good team and then all of a sudden shit will start to hit the fan again and they’ll lose 5 in a row to kick your dick back to reality. If anything, the Flyers are D.E.N.N.I.S. System-ing us right now. But you know what? I don’t care. I’ll take whatever we can get. And I guess that’s why the D.E.N.N.I.S. System always works. Anyway, let’s get right to it.

Ghost Bear For Calder 2016

Shayne Gostisbehere got a little late start to the 2015-16 season and with guys like Dylan Larkin and Panerin playing the way that they’ve been playing, I don’t know if he’ll be able to make up that ground. But just look at how much this team has changed in the 9 games that the Ghost Bear has been up with the club. The Flyers are 5-4 since calling up Ghost and only 1 of those losses was a complete blowout. The Flyers look like they have some more life right now with the young guys in the lineup and one guy who has been benefiting the most from Ghost’s call up is Captain Claude. Gostisbehere has 4 goals already and 3 all 4 of them came off a pass from Claude Giroux. This one wasn’t even fair. Ghost could have taken the bus back to Lehigh Valley with how much time he had to set up shop there. The kid is so good and if we don’t have a Ghost Bear shirt up in the store by Christmas, I’m going to die.

Simmer-Coots-Read Finding Their Game

It was a dominant 2nd period for the Flyers. They out shot the Sens 18-5 and had a shit ton of legitimate scoring chances. There have been games this year that the Flyers have had 18 shots total. They did that in one period last night and most of them came while the 2nd line was out on the ice. This line accounted for all 3 goals in Saturday’s win over the Rangers and were good for 2 goals last night. Sean Couturier had himself a nice little 3-point night, the Wayne Train keeps plowing through bitches left and right, and despite not having a ton of production, Matt Read has had plenty of chances over the past few games. The other Flyers lines have been looking pretty decent so far and I know that you don’t want to mess with anything when you’re on a 3-game win streak. But once the streak it over, I would like to see Voracek back with Giroux and maybe bump Raffl down or something because if the Flyers can get the 2nd line clicking like this and have G and Voracek back together, well then this team could actually be dangerous.

Ladies and Gentlemen, the Evgeny Medvedev Era Has Officially Begun

The Flyers got 2 goals last night from rookie defensemen. One from a 22-year-old American in Shayne Gostisbehere. Another from a 33-year-old Russian in Evgeny Medvedev. Congrats, Ruskie.

Guess Who’s Back. Back Again. Steve Mason’s Back. Tell A Friend

Coming off a shutout win against the Rangers on Saturday, Steve Mason stopped 22-of-24 shots last night and looks like he is finally getting back into the old Steve Mason form that we know and love. Obviously he didn’t have the strongest start to the season. Most of that, of course, is because the Flyers were playing like absolute dickheads and leaving him out to dry. But he looks to be settling into a groove right now and it’s great to have him back. Plenty of big saves last night and on Saturday. Between Mason and Neuvirth, the goaltending situation in Philadelphia is the best its been in a long long while. Here’s to hoping it doesn’t completely go to complete shit by the time the Flyers are actually good again.

Things I Didn’t Like Last Night

– Almost everything about Radko Gudas

I really just don’t like Radko. Sure, sometimes he’s good for a big, clean hit out there and I’ll cheer him on. But then he goes out there and pulls shit like this and it’s just bush league. Anybody can fly around out there pretending that they’re a big tough guy when they’re making hits like this. But it’s bullshit. Gudas is a scumbag and that was a scumbag hit. He’s fucking miserable with the puck on his stick, he never makes the right decisions and yet he played 24 minutes last night. Makes me sick.

– The 3rd period: The Flyers still look incredibly shaky trying to close out games. Right after out-shooting the Sens 18-5 in the 2nd period, they only got 8 shots off in the 3rd. Up until Coots closed out the game with an empty netter at the end, I was almost sure the Sens were going to tie the game up and send it to overtime. It wasn’t a pretty period of hockey but I’ll take the win for sure.

– Again, the Flyers just need to get Voracek back on the Giroux line soon. I’m not saying right away, but just soon. Maybe once Gagner is back in the lineup so they have a little more to work with but they just need to get back into their rhythm they were in last year.
