Mike Pettine Unsure If Johnny Manziel Will Start On Monday After Video Emerges Of Party During Bye Week
(Source) Maybe the Johnny Manziel Era is not ready to be launched in Cleveland after all. Browns coach Mike Pettine wouldn’t commit to keeping Johnny Manziel as the team’s starting quarterback after a video surfaced of the former Heisman Trophy winner partying, allegedly during the team’s bye week. “It’s disappointing. Very,” Pettine told reporters at the team’s practice facility on Tuesday.
Pettine said he talked to Manziel on Monday night. Pettine said he wouldn’t make a decision to bench Manziel in favor of Josh McCown until after Manziel meets with the coaching staff later on Tuesday. “I’m not in the position to answer that,” Pettine said when asked if Manziel would start against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday. “We are still in the process of getting all the information available before we would act on anything.”
Manziel entered rehab for unspecified reasons earlier this year and was involved in a roadside domestic incident in October, although no charges were filed and the league cleared Manziel of any wrongdoing. But the video appears to show Manziel hasn’t given up his well-documented partying ways that led Browns owner Jimmy Haslam to tell his first-round draft pick to tone it down last year. Pettine said he’s discussed the latest video with Haslam and general manager Ray Farmer.
Manziel told reporters on Monday that he hadn’t seen the video, although he said the footage could be old. “It’s all part of the frustration and disappointment,” Pettine said. “It’s a little easier to handle when it’s a one-time occurrence, but when there’s a pattern of behavior repeats, it’s certainly a cause for concern. Manziel was tapped as the Browns starter for the duration of the season last Tuesday after the second-year pro passed for a career-high 327 yards in a loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Nov. 22. The decision was made during the 2-8 Browns’ bye week.
Damn Johnny, you were sooooo close. So god damn close to being the starter for the rest of the season, it was right there. And then someone probably texted you and was like “sup tonight” and you woke up 10 hours later hungover not knowing what exactly happened. AKA you’re 22 years old. I mean obviously if Johnny was actually partying and getting video taken of him this past week he’s a moron, people forgive a lot of things but not the same mistake over and over. But the point remains, show me a rich 22 year old with a week off from work who can’t be talked into a little party with the boys and I’ll show you a loser. Sometimes you gotta let a little steam off. Sometimes you played so hard in a 30-9 loss against your arch rival you sort of deserve a few glasses of champagne and a bud light. 95.8 passer rating in that blowout loss, nbd, pass the fireball. Sorry for partying I guess? Need Johnny on the Cowboys and JJ will make this all go away. I’m not joking, it’s the perfect fit in every single way.
PS
I laugh every time I think of McCown and Manziel in the QB room together. One guy doesn’t even watch porn, not even talking about drinking or partying, he literally doesn’t even go on his computer to watch a little youjizz, and the other guy can’t physically stay out of the bar. It’s like a bad sitcom in real life. Need more of it.
