George R.R. Martin Says Game Of Thrones Season 5 Will Kill Off Characters Who Are Still Alive In The Books
Showbiz 411- Don’t get too attached to your favorite “Game of Thrones” characters. The biggest surprise at the Writers Guild West Awards last night was the appearance of George R.R. Martin, whose best selling epic fantasy novels, “Song of Ice and Fire” are the basis for HBO’s mega hit, “Game Of Thrones” He doesn’t come to LA much and was treated like royalty at the event. Martin has a warning about the upcoming season. “People are going to die who don’t die in the books, so even the book readers will be unhappy. So everybody better be on their toes. David and D.B. (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss co-creators of ‘Game Of Thrones) are even bloodier than I am.” Martin was pretty much the most popular person at the WGAW awards. I asked him how it feels to be such a rock star author. Martin:“It has good and bad aspects to it frankly. As a writer, you start out you’re obscure at first. You publish short stories and maybe a few hundred people read them, if you’re lucky a few thousand. You dream of great success. Sometimes your dreams come true. You get great success. It has wonderful things about it, but also has some drawbacks. You have to deal with it. It is what it is.”
I’ll make this quick because it’s no secret how everybody feels about people who read the GOT books. What do I think of this latest news? GOOD. I’m glad they’re gonna be killing off characters in the TV show even though they’e still alive in the books. I’m sick of the fucking book worms having this weird power over those of us who just watch the TV show. They are the worst people in the world. Bar none. Something CRAZY will happen in the TV show. Something so unexpected that it literally makes my dick explode into a million pieces and book readers will be like, “Knew that was gonna happen because I read the books years ago when they came out. I didn’t have to wait for a TV show.” So smug and so pompous just because they read a few pages of a book. Well fuck you, book readers. Goddamn nerds. Not anymore. You no longer know what’s gonna happen. HBO flipping the script so nobody knows what the hell is gonna happen. I hope in the opening scene of GOT season 5 they just lop off the head of a guy who’s supposed to be in the like the 14th book* or whatever. Kill a guy who’s supposed to be the hero at the end. Just a big middle finger to the book readers. Just so we can hear them cry. No tears would taste sweeter.
*Full disclosure: I have no idea how many GOT books there are or what book we’re on. Why? Because books are stupid.
