Vince Gilligan Told Kids To Stop Throwing Pizzas Onto The Roof Of The Breaking Bad House So Kids Threw More Pizzas Onto The Roof
Pedestrian- It’s one of the most iconic pieces of ad-lib frustration captured in television history, but Walter White’s infamous pizza toss on Breaking Bad is giving the show’s fans a bad rep in real life. According to the co-owner of Albuquerque’s Breaking Bad RV Tours (of course that’s a thing), young fans of the show are emulating their Wallabee-wearing hero by hurling cheesy goodness onto the roof of the house. This is a problem, as it’s a real, normal house, and a real, normal couple live there. Tour operator Frank Sandoval has often had the dubious honour of taking pizza off the roof; despite the show’s creator Vince Gilligan calling out fans who think they’re being ~so edgy~ with their fromage homage, Sandoval still regularly removes the stray slices. Earlier, the home owner claimed if the throwings didn’t stop, he would “sit outside with a shotgun in a rocking chair. You know, like Granny from ‘Beverly Hillbillies.'” In a podcast, Gilligan said “there is nothing funny or original or cool about throwing pizzas on this lady’s roof.”
Even a guy as smart as Vince Gilligan had to see this coming. You tell kids not to do something and that makes them want to do it even more. Duh. Tell them to stop throwing pizzas onto Walter White’s roof because it’s actually the roof of a nice old lady who lives there in real life? Well then kids are gonna throw even more pizzas onto the roof. All Gilligan did by getting mad about it was bring more attention to it and therefore send more kids to buy pizza and plan on not eating it. I remember blogging this back in March when Gilligan first got pissed about it and went on a podcast to scold those who were doing it. I knew it wouldn’t end well. They need to take my suggestion and turn the place into a museum. Let people throw pizzas onto the roof all they want. Make it a game. There might be some lady’s name on the ownership of that house but for all intents and purposes, that’s Walter White’s house and it will be forever. It’s a part of popular culture now and that’s never changing. Pay the person who lives there enough money to buy a better house and make it into a Walter White shrine. It’s that simple.
PS- I said it before but if I’m ever in Albuquerque you can bet your sweet ass I’m tossing a pizza onto that roof. No doubt about it.
