Maybe It's Time For Both Brett Yormark And Isles Fans To Give In A Little

barclays-center

I touched up on this topic earlier in the week. The never ending menial changes that Brett Yormark and the people of the Barclays Center keep imposing on the Islanders and their fanbase.

From the outside looking in it seems that Isles fans are just being a bunch of babies longing for their old Coliseum back, and the memories made there long before you [most likely] and I were even born. But from the prospective of an Islanders fan it is much much more.

I can live with most of the changes that have come with the move to Brooklyn. I can live with my team not being a short drive and a $15 ticket away, I can live with the new 3rd jersey being black, I could have even lived with that horrible goal horn, because [Like I said in my last blog] it won’t matter once I am sitting down with a beer in my hand and hockey being played in front of me. Which is stuff I think a lot of fans forget.

Coming off of the hottest season in my lifetime, with an Isles club poised to take the next step and maybe, possibly, hopefully, win a damn playoff series, it’s impossible to not see the potential in the product. And with Brooklyn looming, Isles fans one concern? Don’t. Change. A. Thing.

How did Yormark handle this concern? By changing stuff.

You can’t have your cake and eat it too, Yormark won’t be able to make changes to the Isles #brand and not face backlash from fans, just like the same fans can’t keep their team in NY without giving up a little bit of, uhhh, oh let’s use the word “tradition.” It’s how this whole thing called life works, you make sacrifices.

With actual, NHL, hockey less than a week away, now is the time for Isles fans to put down the pitchforks and torches, put on that Tavares/Hamonic/Boychuk jersey, forget the meaningless changes that have been made, and get excited to take the Metro by storm this year.

Just the same, it’s time that Yormark realize just how big of a beast this fanbase is, and to actually begin to keep our concerns in mind when he makes decisions regarding the ever so important #brand. The Coliseum sold out more games last year than it had in DECADES. The fans are there, keep the formula as similar as possible, win a few games [preferably 82] and you’ll find yourself staring at a packed Barclays Center, Brett.
